ASWB provides two major training programs to our members: the New Board Member Training offered three times annually, and a two-day Education Conference typically held in the spring. The resources below are external organizations that provide relevant learning opportunities for the social work regulatory community.
Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation (CLEAR) is the premier international resource for professional regulation stakeholders and has been in existence for more than 30 years. Some of the specialized training and certificates are:
- National Certified Investigator and Inspector Training (NCIT) Basic and Specialized Programs
- Introduction to Regulatory Governance—five modules offered in person, online, and via webinar
- Advanced Concepts in Regulatory Governance—two-day in-person workshop for seasoned regulatory board members
- Executive Leadership Program for Regulators, “Building Regulatory Leaders” –three-day workshop
- CLEAR Call Webinars—one-hour presentations on topics of current interest (e.g., “Research on Resilient Registrants”; “Introduction to LEAN Principles”)
BoardSource is dedicated to advancing the public good by building exceptional nonprofit boards and inspiring board service. With an annual budget of $6 million and a professional staff of 25, plus an affiliated pool of associates and trainers who conduct consulting and training on behalf of the organization, BoardSource has been in existence for 25 years. It is the go-to resource for funders, partners, and nonprofit leaders who want to magnify their impact with their communities through exceptional governance practices. The BoardSource Learning Center and Store sells the following: research reports and Board Basics series; books, toolkits and workbooks; live trainings and webinars; and performance assessments. BoardSource’s Annual Leadership Forum is attended by more than 800 nonprofit leaders.
ASAE (American Society of Association Executives) is the premier source of learning, knowledge, and future-oriented research for the association and nonprofit profession. With support of the ASAE Foundation, it provides resources, education, ideas, and advocacy to enhance the power and performance of the association and professional community. ASAE University is a trusted source for quality education in association management. It offers an annual meeting; Finance, HR, & Business Operations Conference; Great Ideas Conference; Technology Conference and Expo. Certificate Programs include: Certificate Program in Association Management (Melissa); the Business of Meetings Certificate Program (LaTonya).
FARB (Federation of Associations of Regulatory Boards) has been in existence for 41 years. Its mission is to promote excellence in regulation for public protection by providing expertise and innovation from a multi-professional perspective. FARB offers three annual conferences: The FARB Forum (all ASWB Board members attend); Regulatory Law Seminar (1-3 ASWB Board members); and Leadership Conference (ASWB CEO and 1-2 Board members). In addition, FARB offers a Comprehensive Regulatory Training for Board Members program.
Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE) advances credentialing through education, standards, research, and advocacy to ensure competence across professions and occupations. ICE is both a provider of and a clearinghouse for information on trends in certification, test development and delivery, assessment-based certificate programs, and other information relevant to the credentialing community. The ICE Academy provides Certification 101, online training modules for new certification staff and volunteer leaders, and Certification 201, for the advanced learner.
Citizen Advocacy Center (CAC) has been serving the public interest since 1987 by enhancing the effectiveness and accountability of health professional oversight bodies through training, research, and networking opportunities for public members and for the health care regulatory, credentialing, and governing boards on which they serve. CAC publishes a quarterly newsletter, sponsors an annual meeting, and provides consultant services and research reports on public policy issues.
